Milan van Ewijk says he meant no offence after "mixing up" celebrations with a controversial salute in Coventry's win over Millwall.

A double from USMNT star Haji Wright in the space of three second-half minutes secured Coventry a 2-1 comeback victory after cancelling out Romain Esse's opener for Millwall on Sunday. Following one of Coventry's goals, a photo of team-mate Van Ewijk performing a controversial celebration was posted on the club's Instagram account – as per The Forty Four. The club appeared to swiftly delete the post in question, after the Dutchman claimed it was an error on his part and he meant no offence.

WHAT MILAN VAN EWIJK SAID

In a now-deleted Instagram post and comment, Van Ewijk wrote: "I got two celebrations mixed up… please don't see this as offensive!"

When a new photo was posted in its place on Instagram, he commented: "Yeah, that's a better pic."

Mark Robins' men are up to sixth and into the final play-off spot in the Championship following their victory over Millwall. USMNT star Wright bagged his 10th and 11th goals of the season and if he can continue this scoring run, the Sky Blues are in with a real shout of promotion.

Coventry have a busy run of games in the next fortnight, with a trip to Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday, followed by an away game at Stoke City on Saturday. They then host Preston North End on February 23, before entertaining Non League Maidstone United in the FA Cup fifth round three days later.
